A disturbing trend that I have discovered is worldwide and not just American: the way a wide variety of institutions make sure that nobody can ever make contact with them with any questions or concerns by using either noreply email addresses, email addresses that deliver to stations that are unmanned, or no means of communication at all. I noticed this trend after I returned to the United States after more than two decades of absence and discovering how many things were not as I remembered from my younger years made me make efforts to bring myself to the present day as it exists in the United States today. However, at times as a customer/consumer/client, I would have questions about various topics and needed to get information to make accurate plans. However, when I looked to see how I could make contact to ask for needed information, I had quite a shock to see that no means for asking questions or requesting information existed. Email addresses that would contact me always began with the word “noreply,” email addresses that seemed to be functional only generated responses saying that the email address was not monitored, so it could not be used to ask for information, or the only option available was either to call a phone number that might reach the right person or department or not, so a call might connect me with an automated menu that would include no option that would provide me information that I needed. A mailing address was usually posted for people who are so desperate that sending a letter via USPS would be the only possibility of making a connection and then wait and hope to get the needed…
